Phung Brothers Keeps Jimmy’s Poke House Open, Continuing Their Father’s Legacy
Jimmy’s Poké House, a sibling-owned poke restaurant inspired by their late father, has found hope in the outpour of community support.
Jimmy’s Poké House is a small family-owned business that has a real passion and love for food. Brothers Jason and Vincent Phung named the restaurant in honor of Jimmy, their late father who passed away in 2016. Jimmy had been a continuous source of inspiration and encouragement to his family all throughout his life. The hardships and many sacrifices that he endured to provide for his family inspired them to open their dream business in March 2018: Jimmy’s Poké House & Sushi Restaurant.
Jimmy’s Poké House strives to serve fresh poké bowls at an affordable price. They specialize in customizable poké bowls and a variety of other delicious items, including their famous Baked Bowl!
No one could have expected the appearance of COVID-19. Just two years after establishment, Jimmy’s Poké has had to furlough their small team of 10 employees in order to mitigate the decline in business. Unwilling to let their dream end in despair, Jason and his brother have kept the store open and running. When Jason found out about the Emergency Response Micro-Grant Program for Sacramento Restaurants & Bars from a friend, he immediately took his chance and applied for the micro-grant.
” All the hard work, the endless working days, the life savings put into the business, is just a little reminder to myself to keep going. I was so surprised to find out that I was one of the few recipients of the Emergency Response Micro Grant program for Sacramento restaurants and bars. I feel very blessed and appreciative of everyone that donated to the program to help small businesses like myself. The grant will help a lot in paying my business expenses.”
Although it has been a rough couple of months, Jimmy’s Poké could not be more proud and appreciative of their loving and supportive community.
“A lot of people still have so much love and support for all of the small owned businesses… it is great to see the Sacramento community come together and to help their favorite small restaurants stay afloat during this difficult time. It really means the world to me that people in the community really care about their local small businesses.”
For this month of April, Jimmy’s Poké House will be open Monday to Saturday from 1-4 pm. They are offering a weekly promotion leading up to the end of April, with constant updates to their Instagram page. Customers can order meals for pick-up through the phone or the online ordering app (link in their Instagram bio). They also provide curbside pick-up, so long as there are detailed notes for accuracy.
They understand that many are facing financial difficulty, and for those who cannot order from the restaurant, they ask for a simple repost of their Instagram graphics to promote the store.
“When you support small businesses, you’re supporting a dream.”
