NextGen Empower U

Building the Next Generation of Civic Leaders

NextGen Empower U aims to empower the next generation of diverse leaders, ages 18-25, to be successful in many facets of their lives. This three-month program will help each participant discover and define their own personal definition of success, while acknowledging that their definition of being successful will change over their lifetime. Our program’s focus will touch on topics including relationship building and communication, education and career development, and financial management while providing transferable skills that participants will be able to use throughout their lives.

Program Details

  • 6 in-person sessions
  • 1.5 hours per session
  • 3-month program (September-November 2022)

NextGen Empower U is operated in partnership with the California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Key Focus

This program will focus on unlocking the three keys to success including:

  • Healthy and Growing Relationships
  • Continuous Growth in Education and Careers
  • Financial Wealth and Independence

Ideal Candidates

Candidates should fit the following criteria to gain the most from this program:

  • Currently enrolled in upper division college courses, recent college graduate, or young adult in the workforce
  • Of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) descent (but open to all other ethnic minorities)
  • From a first or second generation family
  • Interested in exploring ways to be successful

Applications open in June 2022 and will be accepted through July 31, 2022.

 

Meet our Program Director

Jim Tabuchi

Jim Tabuchi first started working with Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce 15 years ago as the Program Director for the Catalyst Leadership Program. For nine years, he mentored and developed leaders. These Catalyst grads can be seen throughout the community, leading corporate and nonprofit organizations.

Jim has an extensive background that includes high tech corporate management, nonprofit leadership, and program development. He is educated in electrical engineering and applied that to become a Senior Manager in Hewlett-Packard. He then applied his management experience to grow the Sacramento Mandarins to become a leading arts nonprofit organization, providing music education programs for more than 1,000 youth every year. Jim also provides consulting services and leadership coaching to numerous organizations. His impact can be seen in several industries including high tech, education, banking, utilities, healthcare, government and more.

As Program Director, Jim offers insightful mentorship pulling from his vast experience in leadership and community development.
