Kristin Kobayashi, Owner of Kollage Salon & Boutique, Won’t Let Pandemic Keep Her Community Down

Kristin Kobayashi is the owner of Kollage Salon & Boutique, a small business in the heart of Midtown. Divided into two floors, the boutique sells hair and skin care products, professional beauty tools, and locally-made items on the first floor, and offers customers a complete salon experience on its second floor.

Kristin and her team’s passion for hair is evident by the positive and welcoming culture they create for their clients. They live and breathe their mission statement:

“Kollage Salon & Boutique is a place where art and science meet. We strive to create a connection between the client and the professional. We provide an uplifting, positive environment in a culture of creativity.”

Kristin Kobayashi has been a hairstylist in Sacramento since 1996 and always dreamed of owning her own business. Early in her career, she was a single mother with a dedication and passion for hair. She committed herself to working 7 days a week to build a clientele and pay for additional training to improve her skills.

In 2013, she finally realized her dream and opened Kollage Salon & Boutique in Midtown. Built on her belief that a salon should be a warm and welcoming place where people can come to unwind and feel beautiful, Kristin created a culture of positivity where her team can be creative, and clients feel like family. The salon offers an array of beauty services including haircuts, hair coloring, facials, makeup, eyelash extensions, bridal hair, bridal makeup, and much more. The boutique sells a number of high-quality beauty products curated by the Kollage team.

Kristin’s passion for hair extends beyond her business. She loves to share her industry knowledge and insights with her younger stylists as a mentor. She is a huge believer in supporting the community, and has her team participating in many local charity events as the occasions arise. Her team donates their services, products, salon space, and volunteer hours to support their community.

When it became clear that COVID-19 needed to be taken seriously, Kristin made the executive decision to close her business until further notice:

“This was by far the hardest decision I have had to make for the business. This is absolutely devastating to any owner. It feels like I have failed my team as they are trying to file for unemployment. I am trying my best to prepare to hit the ground running once we are able to open our doors again. “

Kristin knew that she had a responsibility to keep the community safe. Many of her staff members have elderly and young family members to support, and are currently filing for unemployment. Although Kristin is trying to stay optimistic, she knows the months after the COVID-19 pandemic will be very difficult for her business.
