Member Spotlight: Kandelita Company’s Culture, Community, and Confidence to Grow

Ashley Sullera, owner of Kandelita Company, started her candle business with a heartfelt mission: to create something beautiful that celebrates her identity as a proud Filipino American. What began as a creative outlet quickly blossomed into a thriving small business — one that blends culture, craftsmanship, and the power of connection.

Lighting the Way with Culture and Creativity

“I’ve always loved fragrances,” Ashley shares. “But I wanted to do more than just make candles — I wanted to showcase my culture through every scent, name, and design.” From the beginning, Kandelita Company has been more than a product line — it’s been a personal expression of pride and passion.

Ashley’s journey as a maker and entrepreneur has been filled with growth. “I’ve learned so much — not just about candles and business operations, but about connecting with people who believe in what I’m doing,” she says.

Finding Her Footing Through the Chamber

Like many small business owners, Ashley faced challenges in the early stages. “Visibility was tough. I didn’t know how to connect with other local businesses or where to go for mentorship,” she reflects. That changed when she found the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce.

Through the Chamber’s programs and events, Ashley gained more than just exposure — she found a supportive network. “The AAPI Night Market gave my business a huge boost. It’s my highest-grossing event to date, and it helped put my brand in front of hundreds of new customers.”

Thanks to the media coverage tied to the event, Ashley and Kandelita Company were also featured on local news and other platforms — an opportunity that helped her grow her brand’s reputation and reach.

A Community that Builds Confidence

For Ashley, one of the most impactful parts of being a Chamber member has been the personal confidence she’s gained. “The Chamber really helps new business owners by providing advice, resources, and most importantly — visibility,” she says. “That kind of support is huge when you’re just starting out.” Networking events like Sip N’ Socialize have also played an important role. “They’re a fun way to meet other entrepreneurs and check out AAPI-owned spaces around town,” Ashley adds. “I always walk away with a new connection or insight.”

Advice to Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Ashley encourages other business owners to dive in: “Don’t hesitate to join. The events alone are worth the membership. And don’t be afraid to chat with people, even if they’re in a different industry. If you have a challenge, chances are someone else has a solution.” With her candles lighting up homes and hearts across the community, Ashley is excited about what’s ahead for Kandelita Company — and grateful for the Chamber’s role in her journey.
