Forging a Path to Financial Independence Through Partnership and Community

Achieving financial independence is a dream for many—and for nearly 30 years, independent insurance broker Evette Tsang has made that dream her reality.

With the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce by her side from the beginning, Evette built a steady, self-driven career rooted in service, determination, and community. Her motivation came from a deep desire to “build personal business interests and cultivate meaningful relationships—rather than working within the confines of an employer.”

That mindset led Evette to a career that not only supports her family but also empowers others. Through her work, she’s achieved the freedom to raise two compassionate children who are following their own entrepreneurial paths, all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Insuring a Sustainable Way of Life

Evette discovered her calling in insurance and financial services, a field that allowed her to help both businesses and individuals prepare for the future. “Previously, I worked in macroeconomic policy, where my impact was broad but indirect,” she explains. “Seeking direct results and closer client relationships, I transitioned to working with families and small businesses.”

Since 1999, she has specialized in life, health, long-term care, and disability insurance for individuals and organizations alike. This shift not only deepened her professional fulfillment but also enabled her to serve the Asian community in a meaningful way—particularly those who may lack English proficiency or prior experience navigating insurance systems.

“I view this extra effort as community service made possible by my own financial independence,” she says.

Building Success with Chamber Support

Like many immigrant entrepreneurs, Evette faced early challenges—learning a new language, adapting to American business culture, and establishing a network from scratch.

During her early days as an insurance broker, she joined the SacAsian Chamber, seeking education and community. That decision, she says, was a turning point. “The Chamber introduced me to accomplished AAPI mentors and an instant like-minded community,” Evette recalls. “It provided education on topics vital to my business—laws, regulations, and financial management. This support has been instrumental.”

Through Chamber-hosted seminars and networking events, Evette gained practical knowledge, expanded her client base, and developed the confidence to grow her business independently.

A 30-Year Trail of Impact

In an industry where only about 10% of brokers sustain long-term success, Evette has defied the odds. She credits her resilience—and her partnership with the Chamber—for helping her thrive. “Since partnering with the Chamber, my business has grown—bringing in new clients and forming long-term partnerships,” she shares. “The Chamber’s support has significantly boosted my confidence as a business owner. I’ve learned to build community and rely on its resources, which allows me to focus on what I do best.”

Evette’s story exemplifies the power of partnership, perseverance, and purpose. Her journey is not only a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit but also a reflection of how Chamber members strengthen each other through shared values and collective growth.
