Honoring Community Leaders at the 5th Annual AAPI Night Market

In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month and National Small Business Month, the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce (SacAsian Chamber) is proud to recognize a distinguished group of individuals and organizations whose leadership, innovation, and service continue to shape and strengthen our community.

Each year, the AAPI Night Market uplifts changemakers who embody the spirit of resilience, cultural pride, and community impact. This year’s honorees represent a diverse cross-section of leaders—from leadership and entrepreneurship to corporate stewardship and community advocacy—each leaving a lasting mark on the Sacramento region and beyond.

Join us as we celebrate these inspiring honorees at the 5th Annual AAPI Night Market on Friday, May 15 from 5–10 PM at Capitol Mall in Sacramento—a vibrant evening of culture, food, and community.

Honoree Award: Jesus G. Tarango, Jr.

Chairman, Wilton Rancheria

Jesus G. Tarango, Jr. serves as Chairman of Wilton Rancheria, where his leadership has positioned the Tribe as a driving force in regional economic development, cultural preservation, and community partnership. First elected to Tribal Council in 2016, he quickly became known for his people-first approach and commitment to transparency, rising to Vice Chairman in 2018 and becoming the youngest Chairman in the Tribe’s history in 2020.

Under his leadership, Wilton Rancheria has expanded its impact through major initiatives including the operation of Sky River Casino and majority ownership of Sacramento Republic FC. A Sacramento native and proud Miwok and Nisenan Tribal member, Chairman Tarango continues to honor his cultural roots through traditional song and dance while building opportunities for future generations.


Community Impact Award: Anh Phoong

Founder & CEO, Phoong Law

Anh Phoong has built one of the most recognized personal injury law firms in the western United States, driven by a deeply personal mission to advocate for those navigating life after an accident. As a former accident victim herself, her journey into law is rooted in empathy, resilience, and a commitment to justice.

Under her leadership, Phoong Law has recovered millions for clients across multiple states while expanding its services to support survivors of civil sexual assault and abuse. Beyond her legal work, Anh is a dedicated community advocate, contributing to causes such as My Sister’s House and making significant philanthropic investments, including a $100,000 donation to Miracle University. Her impact extends far beyond the courtroom—uplifting communities through service, advocacy, and action.


Corporate Steward Award: U.S. Bank

With a legacy dating back to 1863, U.S. Bank continues to demonstrate what it means to lead with purpose, innovation, and integrity. As the financial industry evolves, the organization remains focused on leveraging technology to better serve its clients while investing in its people and communities.

Under the leadership of CEO Gunjan Kedia and a seasoned Managing Committee, U.S. Bank operates with a forward-looking approach—enhancing customer experience, strengthening operational efficiency, and staying ahead in a rapidly changing landscape. Emerging Leader Award: Shawn Kahan

Through his work, Shawn has helped bring people together in meaningful ways—transforming spaces into places of engagement and storytelling. His leadership continues to elevate how culture and design can drive connection and community impact.


Ambassador Award: Jeremy J. Wakamiya

Financial Advisor, Northwestern Mutual

Jeremy J. Wakamiya is a trusted financial advisor and the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Ambassador of the Year. With nearly two decades of experience, he specializes in financial planning, retirement strategy, and small business advisory, helping individuals and businesses build long-term financial resilience.

As a Chamber Ambassador, Jeremy plays a vital role in connecting business owners to resources, opportunities, and trusted networks—turning introductions into meaningful partnerships.
