Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month & National Small Business Month: Join Us at the 5th Annual AAPI Night Market

As Sacramento comes alive in the spring, May marks a meaningful time of celebration and reflection—Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and National Small Business Month. These moments give us the opportunity to honor the cultural richness of the AAPI community while uplifting the small businesses that power our local economy.

At the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce (SacAsian Chamber), our mission is rooted in creating economic opportunity and empowering AAPI entrepreneurs. This year, that mission feels especially powerful as we celebrate a milestone: the 5th Annual AAPI Night Market.

Why It Matters

Small businesses are the backbone of California’s economy, and AAPI-owned businesses play a vital role in shaping its growth, innovation, and resilience. From family-run restaurants to emerging startups, these entrepreneurs contribute not only to economic development, but to the cultural fabric of our communities.

Yet many still face barriers to access, visibility, and capital. That’s why our work doesn’t stop at celebration—we advocate year-round for equitable opportunities and resources that allow small businesses to thrive.

The AAPI Night Market is one of the ways we bring that mission to life.

5 Years of Impact

What began as a vision to uplift AAPI businesses and culture has grown into one of Sacramento’s most anticipated community events. Now in its fifth year, the AAPI Night Market has become more than just a gathering—it’s a platform.

A platform for small businesses to reach new audiences.
A platform for artists and performers to share their culture.
A platform for our community to come together, celebrate, and support one another.

Each year, thousands of attendees show up not just for the experience, but to invest in the people and stories behind it. That impact continues to grow, and this year, we’re proud to celebrate not only the event, but the individuals helping shape our community.

Honoring Community Leaders

At this year’s Night Market, we will recognize a group of outstanding leaders and organizations whose work continues to make a meaningful impact across the AAPI community:

  • Jesus G. Tarango, Jr., Chairman of Wilton Rancheria — for his leadership in advancing economic development and cultural preservation
  • Anh Phoong, Founder & CEO of Phoong Law — for her advocacy, philanthropy, and impact beyond the legal field
  • U.S. Bank — for their leadership in corporate responsibility and community investment
  • University of Beer — for their commitment to community, small business values, and local connection
  • Shawn Kahan, Co-Founder of Yellow Brick Group — for his creative work in storytelling and community engagement
  • Jeremy J. Wakamiya, Financial Advisor — for his dedication to supporting businesses and strengthening community connections

These honorees represent the heart of our mission—leaders who are creating opportunity, uplifting others, and shaping a more inclusive future.
